Initial consultation

Success in counselling is in part down to the relationship between you and the counsellor so it's really important that you choose a counsellor who 'gets' you, who is realistic with the goals that you would like to achieve, and who can help you move forward.

I offer a free 15/30 minute initial consultation by telephone, or alternatively you can contact me by email to discuss your needs. Not only is this free from charge, but also free from any obligation. You can ask any questions and get a feeling of what it might be like to work with me.

At the end of the initial consultation, if you decide that would like to book in for face-to-face or online counselling we can arrange this at a time to suit.

Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes and usually take place weekly at the same time and day. Continuity and regular attendance are important in therapy as they give a structure to the process although I do appreciate that flexibility may be needed. The number of sessions and frequency will be discussed during the first session, some clients benefit from a couple of sessions and some find longer term counselling helpful. You are of course are free to end counselling at any time you wish.

Unfortunately, therapy is not a ‘magic wand’ or a ‘quick-fix’. If the issues which you wish to address are long-standing, then recovery may take time and effort. Therapy can be difficult at times, especially in those situations where issues have been pushed away for a number of years.

Cancellations and missed appointments

If you are unable to make your session please let me know as soon as you are able. If the cancellation is less than 24 hours you will be charged for your session.
